“Creative Invasion”: that’s how this new exhibition is being described. Made by…Feito por Brasileiros is one of those rare opportunities to be part of something that will change the map of the arts and the city of Sao Paulo.

For 20 years, in the heart of the city, a former hospital and its adjacent buildings layed abandoned, in total disrepair. The complex was bought in 2011 by Alexandre Allard (of the French Allard Group), who fell in love with the architectural beauty of the buildings and vowed to transform them into a center for the arts and culture. The Cidade Matarazzo (named for the industrialist Francesco Matarazzo, who built the hospital 100 years ago) will also feature a hotel to be designed by the architect Jean Nouvel with interiors by Philippe Starck.

To celebrate the launching of the project, Allard invited 100 artists to take over the site of this ephemeral exhibition. Fifty Brazilian artists, including Vik Muniz, Tunga, Beatriz Milhazes and Lygia Clark along with artists from all over the world, including Kenny Sharf, Joana Vasconcelos, Adel Abdessemed and Tony Oursler, were given “carte blanche” to use their creativity among the ruins.
